Stylistic Evaluation of Linguistic Devices in Czech Language Teaching with a Focus on Colloquialism

Abstract

Colloquialism and colloquial language means represent a difficult-to-define and variable phenomenon that is ambiguous both across generations and within different contexts. The term „colloquial Czech“ is used variably in linguistic manuals and textbooks, with its interpretation remaining diverse. Despite the absence of explicit requirements in the framework educational programs, the topic is included in Czech language textbooks but often inadequately and without sufficient context. Teachers and students frequently perceive it vaguely, confusing it with non-standard language or spoken forms. Despite this ambiguity, the topic is an important tool for developing linguistic sensitivity and the conscious use of language elements. Teaching focused on colloquial language means should be grounded in communication practice and reflect shift s in usage.
