How to Combine Film Education with the Development of Language Competences in High School Youth: Reflections and Practical Solutions

Abstract

The article is based primarily on the author‘s teaching experience. Referring to relevant literature and to his own pedagogical solutions developed within the fi eld of didactics, Paweł Sporek shows how fi lm education can be combined with literary material, while at the same time supporting the development of language competences among upper secondary school students. He refers to the existing school tradition and briefly presents possible directions for working with film in the classroom. The author also highlights opportunities for creative work with students, draws on established teaching methods, and demonstrates how these methods can be adapted to achieve specific educational aims framed within intradisciplinary integration. In this approach to Polish language education, the author sees an opportunity to foster students‘ creativity and artistic expression, as well as to teach them conscious and active participation in cultural life.
