Editor of Issue 2/2026: Professor, Academic Painter, M.A., Ph.D. Martin Velíšek
According to an analysis by the Czech School Inspectorate, on average 46 % of Visual Arts lessons at lower secondary level (ISCED 2) in the Czech Republic are taught by non-qualified teachers. Only Family Education and Informatics show even higher rates of non-specialist instruction. One of the natural paths toward improvement—alongside systematic pre-service education of future visual arts teachers at faculties of education—is the sharing of subject-specific experience, broad professional discussion, and strengthening the field’s visibility through inspiring contributions. Are you a visual arts educator? What topics do you address in your teaching, and what strategies do you employ? Do you perceive shifts in the disciplinary discourse? How can we strengthen key subject-specific competences? What role do you believe visual arts education plays within the broader educational system? The second 2026 issue of the journal Literacy, Pre-literacy and Education will focus on selected current topics in visual arts education, linking research and practice. We invite you to contribute to the professional dialogue by sharing the outcomes of your work.
